Improved defensive transition and ball retention will be critical for the South West Slammers women’s team on Saturday night against the Warwick Senators in Perth.

The young Slammers committed a season-high 45 turnovers during Saturday night’s 102-47 away loss against the Perry Lakes Hawks, with sloppy passes undoing a lot of their early endeavour out on the floor.

As the game wore on, leg-weary players often didn’t get back quick enough defensively, which led to several easy baskets for the Hawks.

The visitors did shoot well early — a sign they are improving and are good enough to get out of the winless rut they presently find themselves in.

Naturally, the Slammers players are expected to work intently at training this week, as they will lock horns with a star-studded Senators outfit, who have won two straight games.

Alex Ciabattoni’s side will particularly need to shut down Mackenzie Clinch-Hoycard and long-range specialist Stacey Barr, who both have given the Slammers several headaches over the past few seasons.
