Norm notches century

Hundreds of friends and family gathered at the Sanctuary Golf Resort on Saturday to celebrate Richard ‘Norm’ Eaton’s 100th birthday.

Mr Eaton has been celebrating across the past month in the lead up to his big party, but he said the Saturday celebrations were emotional.

“It’s been very emotional to get all of the family together and all of my friends who have helped during my journey on this planet,” Mr Eaton said. “I just want to thank everyone who came along and made my day.”

Mr Eaton was also joined by Mayor Gary Brennan on his special day who said his 100 year milestone was a fantastic achievement.

“Well it’s a blessing for Norm and his family that he has lived so long and what a life he has had,” Mr Brennan said.

“He has a wonderful family and he has been part of our community for many, many years – very strong contributor to the Bunbury RSL and he is just a wonderful human being.

“Norm is a very important part of our community, his family, his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, there’s a lot of them – it’s a very caring, supportive community we live in and we are very fortunate to be here.”

Mr Eaton celebrated with friends and family from 12.30pm before his second party began at 4.30pm with just close friends and 96 family members.

Mr Eaton turned 100 years old yesterday.
