Novel art competition celebrates Year of the Dog
Amateur artists are being called upon to immortalise their favourite pooch with an A3-sized portrait as part of the Chinese New Year “Year of the Dog” art competition.
Entries will be split into three age groups – children up to 12 years of age, youth from 13 to 26 years of age, and adults aged 27 and over, with the winning artworks to be displayed in the Bunbury Vet Clinic’s newly refurbished waiting room.
Clinic veterinarian Braden Collins said they sponsored the competition as the portraits would help to make the waiting room “more personal”.
“We want to feature local dogs and local artists so people are able to come in and say ‘that’s my dog’ and not just see something from Google images,” he said.
“There is also a cash prize available for the winners of each category.”
Dr Collins said artists were not limited in the medium used to create the portrait on their choice of A3 paper and encouraged applicants to “have some fun with it”.
A selection of the submissions will also be shown at the Bunbury Chinese New Year Festival held at the Stirling Street Art Centre on March 5.
Finished artworks, with the artist’s name, age and contact number written on the back, are to be submitted at 3Ciana by March 2.
