James Terence Hunt: Third man appears in court charged with murder of Raymond Smith from Greenbushes

A third man has faced court charged with the murder of Raymond Smith. James Terence Hunt appeared in the Bunbury Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with the murder of the 68-year-old from Greenbushes. Mr Smith’s body was found in bushland not far from his home late last week after he went missing on December 7. Mr Hunt, 30, was refused bail and his case was adjourned to the Stirling Gardens Magistrate Court for January 24, where he will appear via video link. Bunbury Police started searching for Mr Hunt on Tuesday. He was arrested on Wednesday morning. Speaking in Bunbury on Tuesday, Det. Sen-Sgt Greg McDonald said it was important for police to find Mr Hunt “as soon as possible”. He said there was an association between the three people charged with Mr Smith’s murder but refused to go into any further details, including whether they were known to the victim. Sen-Sgt McDonald also declined to comment on Mr Smith’s cause of death. Paul Douglas May, 41, appeared in Bunbury Magistrates Court on Tuesday after also being charged with Mr Smith’s murder. Mr May did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody. He will also appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on January 24. Kevin Allan Craig Potter, 35, who was charged with Mr Smith’s murder on Friday. Mr Potter faced Northbridge Magistrates Court via video link from Bunbury on Sunday and was also remanded in custody to appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court. Mr Smith had not been seen or heard from since December 7 and was reported missing 11 days later. Forensic police spent the early part of last week combing Mr Smith’s home on Blackwood Road — Greenbushes’ main street — before expanding their search and finding his body in bushland. Neighbour Joanne Woods said she knew “something wasn’t right” when his front door was left open for a week. “Mr Smith was always very polite. He’d stop out the front, wave, say hello,” she said. “We noticed that his door was open and his vehicle was in the garage. “The door was never closed for the rest of the week, we realised then that something wasn’t right.” Ms Woods said Mr Smith as a “nice, kind guy”. “I only knew Raymond briefly passing here and there,” she said. “I’d sit on his porch, have a drink with him or have a chat. “He wouldn’t really tell you anything much. He’d come down, he’d bring me some lemons, he wouldn’t stay. “He’d just pop some lemons on the table or call out that some lemons are here or some avocados from the tree.”
