A banner designed by the Year 5/6 students of Dardanup Primary School will be put on display in Perth next week as part of the Showcase in Pixels exhibition.

Formerly known as Banners in the Terrace, the exhibition will be comprised of banners from all over the State and will be displayed digitally on the 45m tower at Yagan Square.

Year 5/6 teacher Christine Smith said the design took almost half a term to finalise.

“Our banner really focused on the Dardanup area rather than the shire area,” she said.

“Every child did a design on an A4 sheet and then we took all of those pieces and picked out the best aspects from them.

“Everybody had a hand in doing something.”

The final design of the banner is centred around the town’s motto of Gateway to the Ferguson and features several of the area’s icons, including the gnomes of Gnomesville, rich green farmland and rolling hills of the Ferguson Valley.

Year 6 students Olivia Boyens and Adyn Reid said the hardest thing about the project was making sure all of the colours were right.

The Dardanup entry along with the other 79 banners from around the State are set to be on display in Yagan Square from Monday until August 18.
