The South West Phoenix continued their remarkable momentum with a 3-2 win over Fremantle City at WML Stadium on Saturday.

The one-goal win was the Phoenix’s fourth in a row and has pushed them all the way to fourth on the Football West State League Division One ladder.

Fremantle scored the first goal with just 20 seconds to go in the first half, giving them the most unlikely of leads at the long break.

The Phoenix came back strongly after half-time, with James McLeary scoring the Phoenix’s first goal when he got on the end of a nice pass from Jayden Prosser.

Fremantle again took the lead with a controversial goal, with the visiting player appearing to be offside.

But the Phoenix refused to lie down, with Bright Ababio heading the ball into the back of the net to tie the game.

The Phoenix then made some changes, going all out in attack to try to win the game.

This paid off when Michael Evans got on the end of another fantastic pass from Prosser to give his side a come-from-behind victory.

Phoenix coach Tony Novello said his team stole the win as the contest should have ended in a draw.

“As far as commitment and team effort goes, it was second to none,” he said. “We played against a quality side.

“The guys were just tremendous, I am very proud of them.”

Novello said he got a present for Christmas in July when his team played as a unit.

This Saturday the Phoenix take on Dianella White Eagles at Dianella Reserve. Novello said the team had to play with no regrets.

“We need to go out with the right attitude,” he said.

The Firebirds continued their fantastic season with a 3-0 win over Gosnells City on Sunday.

This Sunday they host Joondalup City at WML Stadium, when they will hope to extend their lead in the championship.
