Police arrest local over Withers explosion

A 48-year-old man has been charged in relation to an explosion yesterday afternoon at a residential property in Withers.

At 4.25pm on Tuesday, December 31, police attended a home on Devonshire Street.

While police were on the porch of the address, an explosion was heard inside. T

The occupant fled the address but was swiftly apprehended by officers before a further explosion was heard.

As a result of the explosions the premises caught fire.

Department of Fire and Emergency Service assets attended the scene and the fire quickly was extinguished.

Two police officers and the male occupant attended Bunbury Regional Hospital where they received treatment for minor injuries.

The Withers man has been charged with Criminal Damage by Fire and Doing an Act with Intent to Harm that Endangers the Life, Health or Safety of Another.

He will appear in the Bunbury Magistrates Court today, Wednesday, January 1.

Bunbury Detectives, in conjunction with Arson Squad, are continuing inquiries.
