Punters are in for an early Easter treat, with racing action at Ascot on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.

On Friday, Capel’s Gunmetal Grey has solid claims in the Marjorie Charleson Classic (1200m) and will jump from barrier four for trainer Ross Price.

The five-year-old’s form so far during this preparation has been solid, with three second-placed finishes from nine starts.

His most recent start, fourth in the Bunbury Stakes, was a solid outing, and the gelding has proven he enjoys tackling the 1200m distance.

On Saturday, Myalup rider Lucy Fiore will attempt to pilot Celebrity Icon to glory in the $400,000 Schweppes WATC Derby (2400m) from barrier seven.

Trained by Kalgoorlie’s Luke Fernie, the filly broke her maiden status two starts ago in Pinjarra, although Saturday’s assignment will be a significant jump in class.

One of Fiore’s best mounts of the day appears to be in the $125,000 Old Comrade Stakes (1600m), where she is booked to ride Roy Rogers-trained Big Bada Boom.
