Scheel set to have ‘fun with music’ at BREC
Renowned performer David Scheel is coming to Bunbury next week to wow audiences with his hysterical show, Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player.
With more than 30 years of one-man show experience, Scheel brings a performance which promises to combine comedy with music.
Scheel describes his show as “fun with music” and says his solo career had quite an unexpected start.
“It was a dare, I was in a review in London and when the season came to an end the cast (including myself) were sitting around in the dressing room saying ‘well what are we going to do next’,” Scheel said.
“And they said to me ‘well hell, you can do just about anything – you can write script, you can play the piano, you can act, why don’t you do a one-man show?’
“So I tried it out at exactly the same theatre that I’d done the review and it took off. I was on BBC television within three months.”
Scheel constructs his Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player performance by combining current news with classical music to create a hilarious and witty show.
He describes himself as a satirist and said he gathered his content from particular world leaders.
“I call myself a humorist or a satirist, sort of a bit like Tim Minchin without the songs and the bad language,” he said.
“I read the newspaper, watch the news, follow the internet and see what Donald Trump is up to next, and that gives me plenty of material.”
The audience can expect to hear at least 40 different accents and voices during the hour-long show, as well as classic tunes played by the talented pianist.
Young and old are all encouraged to see Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player with no prior knowledge of classical music required at Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Wednesday night.
