School holidays closed with an ooze on Friday when Supersonic Science ran its school holiday slime fest at the Hudson Road Family Centre.

All the three one-hour sessions sold out, something Supersonic Science scientists Alesha Rochford and Jason Pearce were thrilled about.

“Slime is fun and it’s science, it has universal appeal, it appeals to both adults and children,” Mr Pearce said.

“These sessions are the most fun for us, even though there’s a lot of effort to bring them to the different places.”

This was not the first time the slime fest has come to Bunbury, the April school holidays being the last time the science show visited.

“It is educational, but it’s fun,” Miss Rochford said.

“We get so many comments from kids that say they do science at school and it’s not fun for them, so we like to put the fun spin on it.

“We try and get down every school holidays although sometimes we may miss one, we absolutely love running these events for the kids.”

Supersonic Science has built its educational but fun reputation not just in Bunbury and Perth, but in most of regional WA.

Centre manager Julie Howells said holiday engagement was important for school students, which was why the centre regularly hosted holiday activities.

“It’s nice to have things that the parents and the children can both do together, it’s just been fantastic,” she said.

“In the last holidays we had the Lego challenge which was for the whole family.”

Students across the South West were due back at school this week as Term 3 resumed yesterday and today for all institutions and year levels.
