Severe thunderstorm warning issued for South West

South West residents are being warned to take action for their safety as severe thunderstorms amp up.

A strong cold front hit this morning, affecting Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Dunsborough, Albany and Walpole.

Damaging winds up to 115km/h along with significant rain could cause damage to homes and properties.

Damaging surf conditions and higher than normal tides are also likely to cause significant beach erosion.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has advised people to stay inside, unplug electrical appliances and be alert for hazards such as fallen power lines and loose debris.

Some roads may be closed and travellers are being asked to be alert for hazards and not to drive into water of unknown depth.

DFES is monitoring the situation and if your home has been badly damaged State Emergency Services can be contacted on 132 500.
