The Dardanup Shire community has celebrated the reimagining of an under-utilised space following the revamp of a local park.

As part of its ongoing Summer in Your Park event series, the Shire of Dardanup recently hosted Summer Sounds to mark the official opening of the newly extended Carramar Park.

During the event, community members gathered for a pleasant summer evening in the park featuring food trucks and live music from local acts Imogen Pinelli, Elise Payne and Tracey Barnett.

Dardanup Shire president Mick Bennett welcome special guests and recognised all of the people and organisations which helped convert a vision for the old brigade depot site to a bright, new reality.

The result is a green corridor connecting Carramar Park through to Ferguson Road and Wells Recreation Park, featuring extensive landscaping, a nature play trail and an outdoor art gallery exhibiting pieces by local artist Dianna Neggo and students from Our Lady of Lourdes and Dardanup Primary School.

The project was achieved with the support of RAC’s Re-Connect WA intiative, aiming to create vibrant streets and public spaces for West Australians to interact and connect.

A commitment to sustainability was also highlighted, including the installation of three mature claret ash trees and three mature golden ash trees which were removed from Ferguson Road about two years ago and cared for by staff at the Shire Depot until they could be transplanted to the new location.

Timber for the nature play area was also re-purposed from trees and materials that had been collected around the Shire of Dardanup, diverting them from landfill.
