Slammers build from the inside

The Printsync South West Slammers women’s side has signed its second import for the 2018 season, adding American forward Tori Fisher to the squad.

Fisher joins Netherlands power forward Charlotte Van Kleef as the two imports for the Slammers women’s team.

The 188cm basketballer is from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs and is currently playing for Rhein-Main Baskets, a successful second division team in Germany.

In the last of three years at the University of Colorado, Fisher averaged 12.3 points and 7.1 rebounds a game.

In the two NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament games she played, she averaged 20.5 points and 11 rebounds a game, which earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Coach Peter Harper said Fisher would add an all-important presence on the inside for the team.

“She will be our go to inside player,” he said.

Harper said they needed the extra height to complement their local players.

“We are reasonably strong in the guard position with Georgia (Denehey), Raya (Thompson), Kate (Fielding) and Demi (Liddle),” he said.

“We just really needed some talls.”

Harper said the addition of the two base court players would result in a better side than last year.

“Last year if Brittany (Hodges) got in foul trouble, it left us with just Kate and Courtney (Bayliss) to cover the other teams’ bigs,” he said.

Harper said Fisher was likely to miss the first game of the season due to her commitments in Germany.

“All being well we can get her straight on a plane from Germany and get her here mid-week,” he said.
