South West AFL Watch: Dunsborough’s Reuben Ginbey an early exit for West Coast after hamstring injury

Dunsborough’s Reuben Ginbey’s run of featuring in all senior AFL matches in his first season may have come to a screeching halt as he sweats on a hamstring injury. During West Coast’s 14.14 (98) to 8.12 (60) loss to Richmond at Optus Stadium on Sunday, the 18-year-old was subbed off almost 13 minutes into the opening quarter with a hamstring injury. Andrew Gaff was brought on in his place, with Ginbey ruled out for the remainder of the match. At that point, Ginbey had only managed three disposals, a mark, a tackle, an intercept possession, two pressure acts and a clearance. Following the match, coach Adam Simpson said Ginbey suffered a “tiny hamstring injury” after landing awkwardly as one of several players to keep the Eagles’ medical staff busy. “We had a few sore boys today,” he said. Harvey’s Brady Hough was kept busy in the back half, finishing with 18 disposals, six marks, a tackle, eight intercept possessions, two score involvements, and 15 pressure acts. On the opposition’s side, former Manjimup Tiger Marlion Pickett had a solid day out as one of three Tigers to kick two goals during Richmond’s winning effort. Along with booting a major in the first and fourth quarters, Pickett finished with 17 disposals, six marks, a tackle, an intercept possession, five score involvements, 11 pressure acts, and three inside 50s. On Saturday, Busselton’s Jye Amiss was kept quiet once again in Fremantle’s 18.5 (113) to 10.7 (67) loss to Collingwood at the MCG. The 19-year-old was kept to one goal during the opening term, and ultimately finished with three disposals, three tackles, a goal assist, three score involvements, and seven pressure acts. Former Harvey Brunswick Leschenault Lion Ethan Hughes played his role in defence, racking up 11 disposals, five marks, a tackle, five intercept possessions, and seven pressure acts.
