South West AFLW Watch: Manjimup’s Dana East boots first goal of her season, Ella Roberts impresses for Eagles
Despite both Western Australian AFLW teams losing last weekend, our AFLW stars of the South West have continued to make an impact.
Manjimup’s Dana East made an impact as the Fremantle Dockers came agonisingly close to breaking their losing streak after falling just short to the Western Bulldogs 3.5 (23) to 3.2 (20) at Ikon Park last Friday.
Despite a strong showing by Fremantle, a late goal via Gabby Newton saw the Bulldogs get up by three points.
East put the jets on during the second quarter, pouncing on an assist by teammate Aine Tighe to score a goal during the second quarter.
Along with the goal, East managed eight disposals, three marks and four tackles for the match.
Meanwhile, Margaret River-born Ella Roberts showed why she was considered an exciting addition with a strong showing in West Coast Eagles’ 13.6 (84) to 4.8 (32) loss to Essendon at Mineral Resources Park on Sunday.
Roberts spent time in the midfield and showed off her strengths, taking intercepts and contested marks, impressing with clean hands at ground level and clever use of the ball.
The former Busselton Magpie was named among the Eagles’ best for the match, managing 17 disposals, four marks, six hitouts and two tackles.
