The meteoric rise of Souwest Jets’ Ruth Aryang is set to reach new heights with an opportunity to train alongside the West Coast Fever.

The 17-year-old defender recently signed on as a member of the West Coast Fever’s extended squad for the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball season.

It continues Aryang’s rise through the netball ranks after taking home the prestigious Jill McIntosh medal after a stellar WANL season with the Jets.

Aryang was also recently announced as a nominee for the SportWest Junior Sports Star award, which is set to be announced on February 24.

Speaking to the South Western Times, Aryang said she was excited to have the opportunity to train alongside the West Coast Fever over the coming months.

“I’m excited to grow as a player and build on my skills,” she said.

“Being able to be coached by their coaching staff I believe is going to be very beneficial for me so I’m very excited to learn.

“With this contract, it’s definitely opened up a lot of opportunities for me to develop as a player and as a person as well.

“Being around professional players that have more experience, I will be able to look to them to see how I should model myself both on the court and off the court.”

Aryang said it also felt reassuring to be able to train with West Coast Fever with her older sister and current Fever player Sunday by her side.

“I feel like having a sibling in your team kind of eases your nerves a bit more in the sense of being able to ask for feedback or help if you feel stuck,” she said.

“It’s very helpful.”

Aryang joins the extended squad alongside Zoe Cransberg while Sloan Burton continues her involvement after being an extended squad member last year.

West Coast Fever coach Dan Ryan said the trio were “excellent additions” to the club and was excited to work with each of them in 2022.

“I’m looking forward to seeing them continue to develop as individuals, further their netball careers and contribute to the overall success of the club,” he said.

“They are all very talented players and have bright futures ahead of them.”

Along with her Fever training, Aryang will continue on with the Souwest Jets during the 2022 WANL season, which is set to kick off in late April.
