Old friends reunited and good times were shared at the Bunbury Badminton Centre’s 50th anniversary lunch.

Held recently at the Dolphin Discovery Centre, guests were able to reflect on a venue which has accommodated some of the best players from WA and beyond.

The story of how the purpose-built venue came about is a tale of resilience, dedication and proactivity.

During the 1960s, badminton’s popularity throughout Bunbury was formidable. However, despite the wave of participation, none of the clubs had a big, designated facility to call their own.

In 1970, plans came together for the Bunbury Badminton Centre, which was opened in 1973, although if it weren’t for dedicated fundraising from members and support from the Shire of Bunbury the centre wouldn’t have become a reality.

Focus now shifts to 2025, when the Bunbury Badminton Association plans to commemorate 100 years of badminton across Bunbury and the South West.
