Australia’s best sprintcar drivers will look to claim bragging rights this weekend when the Perth Motorplex hosts the final of the World Series Sprintcars competition.

Defending champion James McFadden leads Krikke Motosport driver Jamie Veal by 260 points, but with a maximum 700 points on offer across the two nights of racing there is still plenty of opportunities for a number of drivers to claim the prestigious victory.

Veal became one of the favourites after claiming a vital win at the QUIT Bunbury Speedway on Saturday night, after the last two rounds in Tasmania and Albany were washed out.

If Veal is to win the series, it will be Krikke Motorsport’s sixth WSS title and Veal’s second, having finished second to McFadden in last year’s series.

Veal last won the championship in 2014-15, while Krikke Motorsport’s last win was in 2014-15, when Brooke Tatnell drove the team to victory.

American Carson Macedo is also in good touch after placing third in Saturday night’s A-Main, despite starting from seventh.

The US99 driver is in third and looked impressive against a number of Australian drivers, using his skills to pass cars on all areas of the tracks.

Reigning Australian champion Kerry Madsen has also nominated for this weekend’s final, having missed the last five meets because of commitments in America.

Despite being absent since round seven, Madsen sits in seventh position on the series table and is still a chance of finishing in the top five.

Tatnell, who leads the series in all time A-Main wins with 76, will once again drive for Bunbury team Diamond Bay Motorsport, but seeing as he has raced in just the WA-leg of the series, he is no chance to finish inside the top 10.

The penultimate round will be on Saturday night at the Perth Motorplex, before the same venue hosts the illustrious final the following night.
