Stability and furthering solid foundations were key components of Thursday night’s SWFL AGM at Hands Oval.

At executive level, all league positions were filled for the 2019 season, with several familiar faces returning for another season.

Barry Tate was re-elected unopposed as president while Shaun Quaife (senior vice-president), Rob Witten (junior vice-president), David Wedderburn (treasurer, elected unopposed) and Neville Millar were all re-elected.

Joining the quintuplet of elected officials was Brad Hickman, who spent 2018 as the Harvey Bulls Football Club’s league advocate.

Aside from the president and treasurer positions, all other executive positions were voted on via a secret ballot due to nominations exceeding available positions.

The SWFL’s finances remained stable this season, with the league returning a modest surplus of around $10,000 for 2018.

However general manager Simone Nani outlined the league was keen to build on last season’s financial result.

“The year was profitable however we will be working very hard to ensure this is increased after the 2019 season,” she said.

Once the AGM had concluded, the SWFL executive council held its December meeting, with several items discussed – including the proposed player points scheme, which was accepted by the council following a vote.

Tate said he was “pretty excited” to remain in the president’s chair and was optimistic about the league’s community platform.
