Stirling Street Arts Centre redevelopment complete

Sporting a flashy new facade and a fit-for-purpose studio, the Stirling Street Arts Centre redevelopment has finally reached completion.

The $2.4 million project that was due to be finished in May includes a new and modern multi-purpose studio with extra space and administration building.

Chairwoman Carlene Williams was pleased to see the completion of the redevelopment and said without the support from Lotterywest and the City of Bunbury it would not have been possible.

“I don’t think people realise how important art is to the community,” she said.

“There are members from young to old who thrive off this centre, sometimes they just come for the social interaction and a place like this is brilliant for their mental health.”

Ms Williams said the centre would be holding workshops towards the end of July.

The redevelopment, which was completed last week, was designed in-house and represents the essence of the centre which reflects community, connection and history.

“The tree on the South West corner of the fascia replaces the “Betty”, tree which was planted in 1926 by Betty Beauglehole,” centre manager Rebecca Corps said.

Ms Corps is encouraging community members to buy a brick which will be used in the landscaping around the centre and have their family name engraved on it. The official opening celebration will be held on October 23.
