SWFL 2022: Busselton Magpies look to continue dominant run of wins in cross-town battle with Dunsborough
As competition heats up in the run home to the SWFL women’s finals, Busselton Magpies will be looking to consolidate themselves as top contenders.
Fresh off a 8.11 (59) to 0.2 (2) win over Carey Park Panthers at home, the Magpies hit the road to take on cross-town rivals Dunsborough Sharks at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday.
As it stands, Busselton are all but guaranteed to make another SWFL women’s finals berth, currently in third place with an 8-4 record.
After recording a 57-point win over Carey Park last weekend and a 105-point win over Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault the week prior, Busselton are certainly in top form at this stage with Katie-Jayne Grieve, Katisha Barrett, Isabella Hancock and Demi Liddle having put in strong performances in recent weeks
Busselton’s dominant run will challenge for winless Dunsborough, who are in ninth place.
While the fledgling Sharks have managed to put in solid defensive efforts throughout the season as well as strong performances by the likes of Kendall Smith, Katie Horrocks, Chloe McGill and Shelby Foster, opportunities in front of goal have evaded them. They have scored only 20 points so far this year.
The last time the Sharks and the Magpies met Busselton kept Dunsborough scoreless and piled on 12.19 at Sir Stewart Bovell Park.
