SWFLW 2023: Magpies eye derby win over improving Sharks

Reigning SWFL women’s premiers Busselton will be eying off additional bragging rights when they host Dunsborough Sharks on Sunday afternoon at Sir Stewart Bovell Park.

Both sides met twice during the Sharks’ inaugural campaign, with Busselton keeping the Sharks scoreless in both games.

However this may not be the case on Sunday, given the significant progress Dunsborough have appeared to make over the off-season.

The Sharks refused to shy away from physicality during their 49-point loss to Donnybrook in round two and held the Dons scoreless during the opening seven minutes of the match.

Aside from Lacey Holdsworth (six goals) breaking the game open, Dunsborough’s defenders held firm and played confidently.

The Magpies easily won their opening clash against Eaton at home, with Christie Daniels and playing-coach Rennie Meadmore peppering the scoreboard.

Sunday’s derby will be a special homecoming for Sharks vice-captain Susan Isaacson, who will play against her former team for the first time.
