Teneille Watson recognised for dedication to South West Academy of Sport with Connor Lambert Memorial Award

A long-standing volunteer’s commitment to the South West Academy of Sport has been recognised with an award honouring one of the organisation’s favourite sons. Teneille Watson was the inaugural winner of the Connor Lambert Memorial Award, presented at the academy’s annual awards night on Saturday. She was recognised for her nearly 16 years of volunteer reporting work highlighting the achievements of both SWAS and the region’s athletes. Ms Watson said one of the great things about the organisation was the community it had developed. “There’s way too many people in this one community to name but one of them was Connor and his family,” she said. “Sadly Connor is not here today, but he is very much missed.” The promising young cyclist died during an accident while training in Belgium in July, sending shockwaves through the South West sporting community. The South West Academy of Sport’s award is the second major recognition of his impact on the community, with Lambert Loop in College Grove being named in his honour in December.
