Tigers cruise by Eagles

South Bunbury made a statement to its SWFL women’s rivals with a commanding 14.7 (91) to 0.0 (0) victory over Collie Eagles on Sunday at Hands Oval.

The home side took control of the match from the opening bounce and look to be a genuine premiership contender.

In the middle of the ground, the Tigers secured first use of the ball from Kate Fielding, with elite possession getters Tanisha Anderson and Ebony Bilcich suffering from acute cases of leather poisoning.

Up forward, Claudia Elward (six goals) provided an ideal focal point for the Tigers, who extended their advantage at every interval.

For the Eagles, Tahlia Dawson-Gibbs and Rachel Tilbrook persevered hard on a difficult afternoon.

Sunday was an impressive league debut for Maxwell Jetta’s side, who will take on Harvey Bulls on April 27 – which was give them a true indication of their progress moving forward.

At Glen Huon Reserve, Carey Park were all smiles as they held off Eaton Boomers 4.5 (29) to 3.4 (22).

The Panthers, who have been training hard under the watchful eye of Geoff Nitschke, started well and looked to be on course for a comprehensive victory.

However the Boomers, who continue to improve each week, fought back courageously in the second term and pulled to within three points by half-time.

Bronwyn McBeath was a big part of this revitalisation and with her support, the home crowd looked on as their side pushed to open its 2019 account.

But with Nitschke backing them in, the visitors booted two goals in the third quarter to re-establish a handy buffer heading into the last change.

Through no shortage of effort, the Boomers threw everything at the Panthers in the dying stages, but were unable to land a telling blow.

The SWFL women’s competition resumes on April 27.
