Top dogs flex muscles to widen the gap in hockey

The top teams of the men’s South West Hockey League accounted for the lower teams in a big weekend of hockey.

Top dogs Boyanup, Wests and Marist all defeated lower league sides to increase their riches, leaving Associates, Collie and TownsSouth all fighting for that last finals spot.

The biggest winners of the weekend were Marist, who defeated TownsSouth 4-0. Alby Lawrence was again the star for the Blues, scoring two goals, while Andrew Blee and playing-coach Daniel Sampey scored one each.

Collie put up a fight against Boyanup, but the All-Blacks eventually got the victory 2-1.

Geoff Gibbs and Kyle Tossana scored each side of half-time for Boyanup, while Brendan Crowe scored one for the Coalminers.

Exies blew a two-goal half-time lead to go down 3-2 against Wests.

Russell Hartley, Nayton Colombera and Brent Dancer scored for the Busselton side, while for Exies Paul Brandis and Logan Pilatti got on the scoresheet.

This Saturday Wests battle Boyanup at the Bunbury Hockey Stadium from 3.15pm, while Collie take on TownsSouth from 4.45pm.

Tomorrow night Associates do battle with Exies as the race for finals heats up.
