Top field for Margaret River tour

Cyclists from all over the world flocked to the South West at the weekend to compete in the Tour of Margaret River, one of Australia’s biggest multi-stage road races.

Comprised of a team time-trial and two road races, the tour is designed to cater for all riding styles, featuring rolling hills, sharp climbs, gusty winds and fast finishes.

The team time-trial was won by Perth-based squad Dome Coffees Men, who completed the 42km course in a time of 55 minutes and 45 seconds.

Stages two and three were won by Guy Kalma, who out-sprinted the bunch on both occasions to take successive victories ahead of Reece Tucknott and Sam Davis.

Kalma finished seventh in the general classification, with Dome’s Patrick Saccani-Williams crowned the overall tour winner courtesy of his team’s impressive stage 1 performance.

Rebecca Mackey proved too good for the women’s field, beating Joanna Milward by more than 24 minutes overall.

Bunbury riders Cadel Adams and Bryce Lanigan finished the tour 53rd and 62nd overall respectively, placing 42nd and 65th on stage 2, and 67th and 46th on stage 3. Their team Melo Velo finished 15th in the stage 1 time-trial.
