Treendale Bridge spurs increase in development
Four months on from the opening of the Treendale Bridge, developments and subdivisions are set to increase.
On July 10, the Harvey Shire Council development committee approved five items for the Treendale and Australind areas concerning developments, subdivisions and the Treendale District Shopping Centre.
Harvey shire president Tania Jackson said further development was expected following the opening of the bridge to take advantage of the increased accessibility and traffic in the area, as well as subsequent lower costs to developing.
“They were probably timed for when the bridge was opened because (the proposals) take years to put together,” Cr Jackson said.
“It has given a catalyst and a mandate for developments going forward.”
A joint project between the councils of Harvey and Dardanup, the 224m bridge was opened on March 16 and cost $16.7 million.
The bridge connects Treendale and Kingston subdivisions with Millbridge Private Estate and the Parkridge Estate in Eaton.
Millbridge and Dardanup residents are now enjoying easier access to sporting and recreation facilities as well as warehouse stores like Bunnings and Spud Shed.
“Shops are benefiting from the increased traffic,” Cr Jackson said.
“I do feel the communities have not been able to be as close as they are now.”
Cr Jackson said that with the expected rate of growth, developers would soon run out of room.
“We will probably see that area built out in the next five years,” she said.
During planning of the bridge, Cr Jackson said Harvey and Dardanup shire representatives had worked together to plan out areas of development such as public open spaces.
“Generally we will see those areas adjacent to the water will become conservation and recreation areas,” she said.
