Reigning Bunbury Basketball Association men’s champions Tornadoes Black will look to continue their undefeated start to the season when they face Aces Navy on Friday night at the South West Sport Centre.

Coach Shane Goff said despite the unbeaten start to the season he was still wary of the strength of the competition.

“Obviously it is good to start the season with two wins, but they haven’t been easy wins,” he said.

“It is looking like it is going to be a very tough season and it is not going to just fall our way.

“We have had to battle to get where we are but that is a good sign for the Bunbury competition.”

Goff credited his side’s defensive pressure as a major reason for the promising start to the season.

“The guys work really hard in defence and they pride themselves on being able to stop opposition team’s best scorers,” he said.

“But at the same time we have guys who are able to turn around that defensive pressure and apply it to the scoreboard.”

Goff said his club’s recent success had marked them as the team to beat this year.

“Not only are we the reigning champions, but we have also played in the last four or five grand finals,” he said.

“We are definitely the yardstick of the competition so when we play other teams they will always bring out their very best.”

Goff said he was wary of taking on a Aces Navy side and the team was not focusing on individual players.

“They are a very well-balanced team and they lost one of their big men through an injury,” he said.

“Wade Hitchcock can shoot the lights out and Travis Durnin has a lot of SBL experience.

“We know we are going to have a tough game on our hands but we can’t focus on one or two players.”

In other games, Bulls are after back-to-back wins when they face the Bullets and Tornadoes Red want their first win against Aces White.
