Wallam Watch: Harvey’s Donnell Wallam returns to Super Netball with solid on-court effort for Firebirds

As a new season of Suncorp Super Netball kicks off, Harvey’s Donnell Wallam has returned to the court in style for the Queensland Firebirds. Competing in her second season with the Firebirds, Wallam and her teammates hosted the Adelaide Thunderbirds at Nissan Arena on Sunday. The Thunderbirds stormed out of the blocks, leading 10-7 before Firebirds’ new coach Bec Bulley called an early tactical timeout to refocus her side. The Firebirds then returned to the court to score six crucial goals in a row, with Wallam shooting 14 goals in the first quarter. The Thunderbirds came roaring back in the second quarter, shaving the margin down to just one goal by half-time, before taking control throughout the second half. The Firebirds found themselves overwhelmed throughout the second half as the Thunderbirds kept the Firebirds to scoring in the single digits, going on to win 59-44. Wallam finished the match scoring 34 goals from 38 attempts, a super shot, three goal assists, three rebounds and four feeds. The Firebirds will spend the week recuperating before they host rivals Sunshine Coast Lightning on Saturday March 25 during round two.
