A promising effort led by shooter Giselle Taylor was not enough to snap the Souwest Jets’ losing streak, falling short to the East Freo Sharks by seven goals.

The Jets continued to find form when they took on the East Freo Sharks during round 10 of the 2022 WANL season at the Gold Netball Centre.

It was an even start with both teams matching each other goal for goal in the midst of strong defensive pressure and quick driving.

Shooter Giselle Taylor was back to her best, opening the Jets’ tally with their first seven goals, backing up the efforts of Brooke Gibson and Brooke Repacholi in the mid-court.

However, the Sharks were hot on their tail with the likes of Rose Aryang and Larrissa Harrison proving a deadly combination inside the goal circle and strong defence by Shannon Eagland.

While the Jets started pulling away, the Sharks fought back late to shave the margin to just one goal at quarter time.

The fierce contest continued into the second quarter with both teams putting pressure on each other from the outset.

Although the Jets would continue putting in a strong effort to try and hold on to their narrow lead, Aryang was a massive threat, managing several goals throughout the early stages of the term.

While a number of long-range shots from Sophie Eastaugh proved helpful, the Sharks managed to take the lead and build a narrow advantage of their own.

At half-time, the Sharks led 30-28.

Both teams continued to go goal for goal early in the third quarter as the Jets quickly brought the scores level and eventually took the lead.

Brooke O’Connor continued to show strength in defence while Taylor and Eastaugh continued to impress in the goal circle.

At the final change, the Jets led 45-44.

In the final term, a determined Sharks grabbed back the lead with goals via Harrison and a strong defensive effort by Eagland.

Despite the Jets’ best efforts, the Sharks held strongly to take the win 60-53.

In the 20 & Under competition, the Sharks defeated the Jets 56-47.
