Wellington National Park expansion a step closer
The group campaigning for Wellington National Park to be expanded has handed its strategic plan to the State Government.
Promote Preston last week handed over its plan to Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray who previously declared his support for the idea.
Promote Preston spokeswoman Julieanne Hilbers said the group’s vision was for an interactive park for people of all ages and abilities to access and engage with the area’s jarrah/marri forests.
She said the park should be a place where people could learn more about the Noongar ways of caring for country, participate in citizen science volunteer programs, or challenge themselves by doing something a little wild and adventurous.
“Our plan is based on 18 months of extensive research and consultations with tourism and recreation experts, key stakeholders and the broader community,” she said.
“An expanded Wellington National Park will be a great boost for our community as it will provide new social and economic opportunities for the Preston Valley region.”
