A State Government agency has told Bunbury residents not to worry if seawater in the Casuarina Boat Harbour turns red next week.

The Department of Transport's maritime projects manager James Holder said a safe, non-staining red dye would be released into the harbour on Tuesday to track water movements.

"Monitoring and sampling will continue for 10 days following the release to provide data to verify computer modelling that will be used to determine the best development options for the harbour as the Transforming Bunbury Waterfront initiative progresses," Mr Holder said.

He said dye studies had been used previously in Koombana Bay and other places in the region without any impact on the environment.
