Children can use their imaginations to transport themselves to prehistoric times, thanks to new play equipment in a Bunbury park.

Bunbury City Council has installed two new plastic pieces in Ron Mort Park, a small park on Molloy Street in the CBD.

One resembles an Ankylosaurus, a dinosaur covered in bony armour, and the other resembles a fungi-covered log - both can be climbed on by children.

Acting works and services director Greg Golinksi said the equipment, which was created by an Eastern States company, was chosen because it is "completely different" to what exists in other Bunbury playgrounds.

"We wanted something that would encourage children to use their imagination in play rather than just going down a slide," he said.

"This park did not have a lot of use and we were keen to give the community something that encouraged people to explore it more.

"It is much cheaper creating a park in this way and the city has saved around $15,000 compared to a traditional playground.

"Already we know it is getting more use and we hope the community gets a great deal of enjoyment from something that is designed to spark the imagination."
