'Cheeky' May prepares for tough title test

Mitchell Woodcock, SOUTH WESTERN TIMESSouth Western Times

FOR the past five and a half weeks, Bunbury boxer Nathaniel 'Cheeky' May has been preparing for the fight of his life, when he takes on Agus Kustiawan for the WBA Oceania featherweight title.

May is yet to lose in 2015, with wins over the experienced Lloyd Jardeliza, the heavier Komkit Chanawong and Anshori Anhar Pitulay.

On Saturday, August 1, May will fight for his highest ranked title yet in arguably the best fight card to be presented in the South West.

Professional boxing tournament Fight Night will also have the WBA Oceania lightweight title on the line, with WA boxer 'Brilliant' Brandon Ogilvie to challenge for the title.

Denning Boxing Gym trainer Pete Stokes said May and Ogilvie had intense training camps in the lead up to the event.

"It has been a full-on training camp," he said.

"Watching Brandon and Nathaniel spar, you would think they want to kill each other.

"They are really hungry for these titles."

Stokes said May would look to be faster than Kustiawan and get him in the late rounds.

"I don't think this Indonesian guy will go with him," he said.

"I really think he (Kustiawan) is going to struggle.

"We want to outwork him round by round. He is a tough boy, not a bloke you can knock out easily but we will do our best."

Stokes, who is also putting the fight card together and promoting the night, said it was one of the best line-ups yet.

"We even have a heavyweight fight this time," he said.

Stokes said the card would be confirmed in the next few weeks.
