Choir debut Bunbury family song for Anzac
The Bunbury Men of Song will perform a song that has a deep connection with the city at tomorrow's Anzac Day morning service.
The choir will sing Oh Why, which is a song about Bunbury's Paisley family, at the morning service at the Graham Bicknell Memorial Music Shell on Monday.
The song is written from the perspective of young Thomas Paisley, who saw his three brothers Leslie, Cyril, Selwyn and his sister Vera take part in World War I.
About 7000 people are expected to attend the dawn and morning services in Bunbury next week to show their respect for soldiers who served Australia.
Bunbury Men of Song accompanist Greg Ross said the song was written last year by Busselton resident Matthew Ho and well-respected composer Paul Jarman.
"They visited the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries when there was an exhibition about Anzac Day and Mathew was taken by the Paisley family," he said.
"They then wrote the song together and it premiered in October but this is the first time that we will perform it during Anzac Day.
"It's a pretty poignant song and a lot of people have memories about the Paisley family."
The Bunbury Men of Song will sing two songs at the dawn service at Anzac Park before singing three at the morning service. More than 30 members of the choir will sing including six from the group's boys' choir, the BMOS Boys.
Bunbury RSL president John Gelmi said he was pleased the choir would perform the song at the service.
"The song has a lot of relevance to Bunbury's history and the Paisley family are on the honour board at the RSL," he said.
Mr Gelmi said he expected a haunting atmosphere at the dawn service and believed there would be a similar crowd to last year.
