City embraces Christmas celebration

SOUTH WESTERN TIMESSouth Western Times

Bunbury City Council is looking to create a festive atmosphere at a revamped Christmas event next month.

The Christmas in the City event combines the annual Christmas Parade and Festival at Bicentennial Square with a carols concert at the Graham Bricknell Memorial Music Shell on December 13.

Bunbury City Council events officer Hayley Mazzucchelli said she hoped the combination of events would rejuvenate the day.

"Previously the events were held on different days but we understand that it is a busy time of year for people so we want an event that will allow people to come together in the central business district," she said.

"The festival will start at 3.30pm at Bicentennial Square before the parade at 5.30pm, which will end at the music shell for the carols at 7pm."

Ms Mazzucchelli said the focus of the event was to create a festive atmosphere for everyone who attended.

"The preparations for the event have been good and the members of the events team have been busy little elves because we want to bring a sense of wonder for the people who attend," she said.

Ms Mazzucchelli said there would be activities for people of all ages at the festival, including a digital art installation.

"There will be a large craft tent, a person doing Christmas caricatures, a petting zoo and much more," she said.

"We've had a good response to the parade and there will be new groups involved and many different colourful characters.

"There will be some talented local musicians who will perform the carols during the evening."
