A LOSS at the weekend by the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers women's side put them in a tough position, making Friday's game against fellow championship contenders the Willetton Tigers almost a must win.

A win over the East Perth Eagles would have cemented the Slammers' spot inside the top eight, but now they are one of three teams on 16 points who are fighting for seventh and eighth spot.

This weekend the Slammers face the second-placed Willetton Tigers, who have lost only two games, before taking on the Kalamunda Eastern Suns who sit in a healthy fifth position.

Slammers coach Julieann Bissaker said her side needed to win at least one of the next three games.

"The games this weekend are going to be tough," she said.

"We just need some consistency in our game.

"A bit more defensive pressure and we need to get through our offences."

Willetton Tigers women's coach Simon Parker said he wanted his side to win its last two matches heading into the play-offs.

"I want us to cement a top two spot and maybe even grab top spot," he said.

Parker said his side was well balanced and that was why they were having so much success.

"We go pretty deep with our squad at the moment," he said.

Parker identified in-form Slammers' import Patricia Bright as the danger player heading into Friday night's clash, but he believed his side could account for her.

"We have three bigs in rotation who can match her size and skill," he said.

Bissaker said Bright was feeling the benefits of extra work she had been doing with recently signed assistant coach Peter Old.

"She has been working hard," she said.

The Slammers take on the Willetton Tigers at the Eaton Recreation Centre on Friday night from 6.30pm, before travelling to the Ray Owen Sports Centre to take on the Kalamunda Eastern Suns from 6.30pm Saturday.
