South West families are being urged to donate their pets for next weekend's Brunswick Show.

The Brunswick Lions Club is looking for small pets and animals, either loaned, sold or donated, that can be used to stock their animal nursery.

Lions club member and nursery manager Peter Monagle said they wanted animals that would excite young children.

These include puppies, kittens, guinea pigs, rabbits and ferrets.

Other animals that will also feature in the animal nursery include chickens and emus.

"About a quarter of the people who come through the show would probably come through the animal nursery," Mr Monagle said.

"It is a walking place where kids can pat a young lamb and parents can take photographs.

"It is very popular and the funds raised go to community groups around town."

Show publicity officer Lindsay Rose said another bumper crowd of about 15,000 to 18,000 people would enjoy the biggest one-day show in Australia.

"We have this outstanding team of volunteers and they are in high gear to get things ready on time," she said.

"It will be perfect on the day as it always is."

The show will feature its usual mix of events and attractions including animals, log chopping, a grand parade and sideshow alley.

Anyone who can donate an animal for the nursery can contact Mr Monagle on 0411 287 766 or 9726 3206.
