Former students and staff of Bunbury Senior High School are wanted for an alumni project ahead of the school's 100th birthday in 2018.

South West Institute of Technology has provided students as "human resources" for the project to build their community development skills.

The project, which began in July, has already built a database of about 300 former students and staff.

Steering committee member Maree Sheldon said the age ranges of those who responded varied considerably and there had been strong engagement from those already involved.

"The idea is to build an alumni that will foster and facilitate connection," she said.

"We would like as many staff and students as possible to register their interest and we would also like a broad cross-section of students.

"The alumni committee is integral to planning events and gathering momentum for those celebrations."

The school's website has a registration form and survey for alumni. Ms Sheldon said about 20 per cent of respondents had also completed the survey, which she described as an excellent outcome.

Vice principal Susanne Vaughan said there had been attempts in the past to establish Bunbury Senior High School's alumni.

She also suggested this project could benefit present students if it led to successful former students mentoring at the school in future years.

School alumni can register their interest by visiting the school's website or emailing alumni.bunburyshs@education.wa.edu .au.
