Dragon blazes Ferguson Valley art trail

Peppermint Lane Lodge has become home to an array of quirky sculptures and installations such as Balthazar the dragon as part of this weekend's Dardanup Art Spectacular.

The country retreat is among 18 wineries, galleries and other Ferguson Valley venues to feature a diverse range of artwork as part of the annual art trail.

Lodge owner Kim Wesley said she was inspired by previous Dardanup Art Spectacular trails to take part for the first time.

"I sent out an email last July to see who would be interested in creating sculptures and installations and I received a great response," Mrs Wesley said.

"A lot of the pieces were done by local farmers and community members.

"I haven't tallied all the pieces up but there are probably about 35 sculptures and installations."

Mrs Wesley was unsure about how the public would react to the art pieces but said she was excited for the weekend.

"I was excited when I got each of the pieces and I had the thrill to see them installed around my property," she said.

The Dardanup Art Spectacular begins on Friday at the Dardanup Hall, where awards will be handed out to artists and guests will be able to sample award-winning wines, beers and produce from the region.

Dardanup Art Spectacular committee member Ros Edmonds said artwork could be viewed at the hall on Saturday and Sunday.

"We've got more locations than we had last year and an array of work including sculptures, installations and paintings," she said.

"People will have to pick and choose where they go during the weekend because there is so much art."
