Fast footwork in Sydney has won a South West Academy of Sport track talent a national title.

Brooke Rogers, 18, was part of the WA team that took the under-20 women's 4x400m relay title from New South Wales at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships last month.

Rogers said the WA foursome hadn't expected to win, which made victory sweeter.

"It was the best feeling and to be part of a great team was awesome," she said.

The Bunbury teenager also praised the performance of the WA side as a whole.

"As a team, we really stepped it up and made a bit more of a name for ourselves," she said.

Held at Sydney Olympic Park from March 11-15, the championships delivered exciting track and field action from some of the nation's best and brightest young athletes in a range of disciplines.

And with the Rio Olympics little more than one year away, the competition was fierce and performances by competitors strong.

In addition to winning gold in the relay, Rogers can also be proud of her individual efforts - having made it to the final in the under-20 400-metre event.
