Fresh face keen to serve Dardanup

Patricia Perks is looking to keep a strong connection with the community in her new role as a Dardanup shire councillor.

Ms Perks was voted onto the council on Saturday along with re-elected councillors Peter Robinson, James Lee and Danny Harris.

She is pleased to be elected and believes her knowledge of the shire was a key factor.

"I nominated because I grew up in the Dardanup shire and I wanted to give back, I know the area well and I know there are a lot of big changes happening here," she said.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be elected onto the council because there were a lot of great candidates who put their hands up.

"I talk to a lot of people in the shire and I think I share the view with a lot of them, I'm very much a local.

Ms Perks said she believed voters wanted to see more young people on council and this was a significant factor in the election.

"I think I'll have a different viewpoint on council because I'm 32-years-old and I believe council should represent people from across the shire no matter their age or gender," she said.

Ms Perks said she would be working towards creating more dog exercise areas around the Dardanup shire.

"I believe there should be safe areas for dog owners to train and exercise their dogs and this was one of my main issues in the election," she said.

"I'm looking forward to working on projects like the new city of Wanju but I want to keep in touch with the people in the shire because the sense of community here is amazing."
