All schools need defibrillators, according to a St John Ambulance manager whose call has been backed by the principal and nurse of a school where a student's life was saved in April.

St John Ambulance community first responder system manager Sally Simmonds said it would be "perfect" for all schools to have defibrillators after Bunbury Catholic College became the 1000th location in WA - and the first school in Bunbury - to house a St John Ambulance defibrillator.

Mrs Simmonds said it would benefit the school as a cardiac arrest could happen to anyone regardless of age.

School nurse Miranda McKee - who performed lifesaving CPR on Year 12 student Wyatt Hancock in April - and principal Denise O'Meara, agreed all schools would benefit from having defibrillators.

All college staff will be trained to use the defibrillator and Ms McKee said it would "give peace of mind knowing everyone can assist with a cardiac arrest".
