Bunbury Regional Art Galleries has burst into life with the Blooming Art exhibition.

The annual show by the Flower Designers Club of Bunbury is held in conjunction with the galleries.

An official opening will be held at 6pm today before the exhibition is opened to the public, from tomorrow until Sunday.

Blooming Art presents an array of works made from living flowers and gives South West artists the chance to create floral interpretations of artworks in Bunbury City Council's art collection.

Exhibition chairwoman Eileen Wenn said this year's show would be special, with a number of guests coming from around the world.

"We have visiting artists from Setagaya in Japan and they will do ikebana displays and performances on Friday and Sunday," she said.

"The Blooming Art exhibition has become very popular within the community and this year, we will have a people's choice award.

"There will be some displays that will be six feet tall as well as displays that will be miniature."

Mrs Wenn said the centrepiece of the exhibition, Golden Chimes, would capture the public's attention with its array of flowers.

Flower Designers Club of Bunbury president Jean Shine said it was a special exhibition because it was the club's 50th anniversary.

"We are bursting with pride to showcase the art form and it's a great venue to do so," she said.

"It will be great to show people what we do with manipulating foliage and the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries is a prestigious place."
