Police tasered a man who allegedly threatened beachgoers with a knife at Mindalong Beach on Monday.

An anonymous call to police about 1pm claimed a man was at the popular nude beach wielding a big knife and threatening people.

Acting Sen. Sgt Ron Patchett said officers spoke to beachgoers who told them the man had left the beach and headed into the sand dunes.

After spotting a man and confirming it was the suspect, police approached him.

Acting Sen. Sgt Patchett said the man would not speak to police and did not respond when told to drop the knife.

He said police repeatedly told the suspect to drop the knife before the officers pulled out a taser.

He said the man then allegedly raised the knife and police tasered him.

The man was arrested and taken to Bunbury Police Station.

The 32-year-old from East Bunbury was charged with one count of carrying a weapon with intent to cause fear.

He will appear in Bunbury Magistrate's Court on March 14.
