The man who wielded a big knife and "charged" towards at least one person as revellers spilled onto the streets after a nightclub closed has been jailed and fined $2000.

Ali Nasir Saleh Al Hulow, 27, appeared in Bunbury Magistrates Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to being armed in a way that may cause fear.

About 5am on March 27 a number of small fights broke out at the intersection of Victoria and Eliot streets in Bunbury's CBD, the court was told.

The police prosecutor said a number of witnesses saw Al Hulow waving a 30cm knife he got from a shop before he charged at a person.

The court was told a number of people panicked, dropping to the ground, while others picked up tables and chairs and chased Al Hulow to an undercover carpark.

Al Hulow was eventually tripped over, causing him to fall and drop the knife.

Lawyer Natasha Erlandson told Magistrate Dianne Scaddan Al Hulow was a New Zealand citizen and had a ticket to fly home today with his father who needed medical treatment.

Ms Erlandson said Al Hulow was "very sorry" for his actions.

Magistrate Scaddan described the incident as frightening and disturbing. She warned Al Hulow the maximum penalty was $36,000, but fined him $2000 plus court costs.

Because he had plans to leave WA, Magistrate Scaddan sentenced Al Hulow to five days in prison until he pays his fine.

Two people were injured in the incident, including one man who received a cut to his stomach and the other an injury to his arm.
