Movie Review: Ted 2

Rated: MA

Rating: 8/10

Ted 2 could be mistaken for a movie that aims to make you think deeper about what it means to be human and what defines us.

Instead, I think comedic genius Seth MacFarlane has made one of this year's funniest films - backing up the popular 2012 prequel, which arguably changed comedies forever.

MacFarlane reprises his role as Ted, the magical stuffed toy that came to life at the wish of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg).

Ted and his new wife Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth) want to adopt a child to save their marriage but the State of Massachusetts finds he is not human and takes away all his civil rights. Facing a near-impossible legal case, John and Ted team up with graduate lawyer Samantha Leslie Jackson (Amanda Seyfried) to reclaim Ted's rights.

The trio go on a drug-fuelled, cussed-filled adventure that takes them from court to barnyard on a drug plantation near New York City.

My excitement in anticipation of seeing this film was enormous and MacFarlane did not disappoint.

Some could argue the sequel is just as good as the original - as proven by Wahlberg, who stars in his first ever follow-up movie.

Celebrity cameos, laugh-a-minute pop culture references, and some of cinema's best one-liners for 2015 make this movie easily one of the best comedies of the year.

MacFarlane has a skill shown by very little people in the film industry and that is to keep an audience engaged in a far-fetched story through laughter and anticipation.

The only thing missing was Mila Kunis, who starred as Wahlberg's love interest in the first film.

But overall, you can see why MacFarlane gave the sequel a go.

And the best part - there's room for a third.
