Road noise to be quietened

The State Government has responded to concerns from Eaton residents, deciding to resurface a section of road at the centre of months of debate.

Roadworks will begin on Forrest Highway on Monday replacing the surface with a new 'slurry' seal, which will lower traffic noise, according to Transport Minister Dean Nalder.

The work will be carried out over 3.3km of Forrest Highway and will cost $400,000.

The announcement comes as residents have battled with the Government since May for a resolution to the "extreme" noise affecting not only the way they live, but the way they sleep and the value of their properties.

Opposition Leader Mark McGowan and Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray both presented grievances in Parliament to the Transport Minister. Mr Murray said he was happy with the outcome.

"I am pleased common sense has finally prevailed and the Barnett Government has listened to the residents' concerns," he said.

"It is pleasing that Eaton residents are now being given equal treatment and the right to peace and quiet in the same manner enjoyed by people living along other sections of Forrest Highway."
