THE Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers are looking to create history this weekend, when they chase their fifth State Basketball League championship.

The Slammers will play the Joondalup Wolves in Saturday's grand final at the Bendat Basketball Stadium, after the South West side went undefeated in their two finals series against the Willetton Tigers and Goldfields Giants.

But the Wolves present a different challenge to their previous opponents, with this year's minor premiers defeating the Slammers in their two previous encounters this season.

The Wolves ended the Slammers' perfect start to the season, handing them their first loss in round five after the South West side had won their first seven games.

The 16-point loss was then compounded when Joondalup convincingly beat the Slammers by 25-points.

The Slammers have previously won the championship in 1995, 96, 98 and 99, while the Wolves, who last played in a grand final in 2013, have taken the title home in 1993 and 2011.

Players and officials from the Slammers are encouraging as many South West fans as possible to make the trip to support the team.
