Almost a year to the day after a BMX crash which left talented rider Cory Crombie paralysed, he got on his bike again and rode.

On December 27, 2017 talented BMX rider Cory Crombie was training for the national BMX titles in his hometown Bunbury when the unthinkable happened.

He landed awkwardly after a jump.

It was one he’d never tried before. He fell 10m. He couldn’t feel his legs.

He was told he’d never walk again. But he wasn’t going to accept that.

The determined 15-year-old set a goal of walking 5km unaided, and in September, he did it.

He said he’d always try to get back on his bike. Yesterday he went down to the Memorial Promenade foreshore and rode the bike he crashed on.

“Was very slow ride but hey still happy. It felt great to be back on my bike,” he wrote on Facebook.

His recovery has inspired many in the Bunbury community, and despite dealing with constant nerve pain he’s started wheelchair racing.
